Our environmental actions

At Glamping Terre & Mer, we advocate a non-punitive approach to ecology : taking real action to reduce our impact, without making our vacationers feel guilty or sacrificing their comfort.

The principle is simple. We ourselves bear the bulk of the effort through our equipment, our investments and our operational choices, then we invite everyone to participate through a few simple actions.

No moralizing, no greenwashing. Installations that sustainably reduce our consumption, results that we seek to measure, and an approach that progresses each season.

Here, in concrete terms, is what we do.

🚲 Getting around differently

• The area is entirely pedestrianized. Cars remain in the entrance parking lot. Pedestrians, bicycles and scooters move around freely and safely.
• Upon arrival, we drive our clients and their luggage by electric golf cart to their accommodation. The wheelbarrows in the parking lot remain available for shopping and luggage during and at the end of your stay.
• We leave the car in the parking lot: the beach is an 8-minute walk away, the Ponto woods are directly accessible, and the shops in the center are a quarter of an hour away.
• Two charging stations for electric vehicles are installed in the parking lot.
• Low carbon access is possible: Saint-Brieuc train station nearby, and BreizhGo 201 bus stop "rue Pasteur" in Étables-sur-Mer, 500 meters from the estate.

🪵 Wooden accommodations

• Our 30 accommodations (excluding the gîte) are made of wood: chalets, cabins, ecolodges, and cottages. Most of our communal buildings are also made of wood. There are no white mobile homes on the glamping site.
• The exterior woodwork is maintained with a bio-based saturator.
• Wood is an asset for the climate: it stores carbon throughout its life, whereas the production of materials like concrete emits it. For the same volume, the difference amounts to hundreds of kilograms of CO2.

☀️ Mastering our energy

• - 36 photovoltaic panels, representing approximately 15 kWp of installed capacity, already equip several buildings (swimming pool, Komodo chalet, reception, storage area, parking chalet). More will follow as the work progresses.
  
• - Inertia heating in accommodations, complemented by the gradual deployment of heat pumps, which are more economical and more efficient.
  
• - 100% LED lighting, outdoor dusk-to-dawn and solar lighting.
  
• - Accommodation equipped with load shedding devices and insulated hot water pipes. Appliances selected from the most efficient on the market, including heat pump tumble dryers.
• 
  - Remote control of some equipment and accommodations. When an accommodation remains unoccupied for several days, we can switch it off, after assessing the actual energy benefit of the operation.
• 
  - Our maintenance equipment is electric (excluding lawn tractor).

💧 Conserve water: a priority for several years

Water conservation is one of our main priorities. We have progressively equipped the resort to reduce consumption without compromising the comfort of our guests. Faced with increasingly frequent droughts, we are further strengthening this approach.

🚿 Accommodations designed to use less water

• - Hydrao Aloé showerheads with limited flow are available in almost all accommodations: they change color as water consumption increases, allowing you to easily see the level while showering. Up to 70% water savings.
• - Associated thermostatic mixers, to quickly obtain the right temperature without letting the water run during adjustment.
• - Aerators and water-saving equipment on the various water points.
• - Dual flush toilets (3 litres / 6 litres) in all accommodations.
• - Dishwasher in 27 of our 31 accommodations: fully loaded and running on the eco program. A wash cycle uses an average of 9 to 12 liters of water., whereas a manual wash for the same amount of dishes consumes on average 40 to 42 liters , and sometimes much more if the water runs continuously.
  

🏊 Pool water consumption reduced by 43% in two years

The meter dedicated to the swimming pool is read every morning and recorded in our maintenance log. This allows us to precisely monitor consumption and quickly identify any anomalies.

Over the same period, from April 3rd to August 3rd:

• 2024: 423 m³ - sand filtration
• 2026: 243 m³ - glass filtration

That's almost 43% less water in two years, thanks to switching from sand filtration to glass filtration (much finer, less filter washing) and the continuous optimization of basin management.

We are of course maintaining the new water replenishment required by health regulations to guarantee the water quality in the pools. Our work consists of reducing all avoidable consumption related to this requirement.

🌧️ 7,500 liters of rainwater stored on the property

• 14 rainwater harvesters distributed across the glamping site, for approximately 7,500 litres of storage capacity, increased over the course of our developments.
• Depending on the location of the tanks, this water is used for cleaning certain equipment, for occasional watering of young plants, and for uses that do not require drinking water.
• The majority of our water recovery systems are directly accessible to our holidaymakers, for rinsing shoes, feet or beach gear rather than using drinking water.
• Several of our year-round residents have made the same choice, and we encourage them to do so.
  

🔎 Monitor consumption and detect leaks

Detecting a leak is just as important as reducing regular consumption. The pool meter is already read daily.

We want to go further by equipping our three main meters with remote reading technology, for more precise monitoring and rapid alerts in case of abnormal consumption. We are following the deployment of this technology across the region with interest.

🏡 Empowering our permanent residents too

In 2024, we chose not to increase the annual price of plots for our year-round residents, but to reduce the volumes included in their package to better encourage responsible consumption:

• Water: from 35 m³ to 20 m³ inclusive per year
• Electricity: from 500 kWh to 200 kWh inclusive per year

From the first year, we observed approximately 15 m³ less water consumed.

🌱 Green spaces maintained differently

• No chemical fertilizers or weed killers: manual and reasoned maintenance of vegetation.
• Plantations favoring robust species, adapted to hotter and drier summers.
• During periods of drought and high fire risk, we may suspend mechanical mowing in certain areas. Beyond the benefits for vegetation and biodiversity, this prevents the risk of a lawn tractor blade hitting a rock and causing a fire.
  

♻️ Reduce and recycle our waste

• - Organised selective sorting across the entire property, explained simply in the welcome booklet.
• - A freely accessible donation box: our customers can leave items they no longer use so they can be used by other vacationers, rather than being thrown away or bought new. A reuse initiative carried out with the network of Breton Reuse and Recycling Centers, supported by ADEME.
• - Composting of all bar waste: coffee grounds, mint, lemons.
• - Our chickens and goats make use of a large part of the food waste from the estate.
• - Digital customer reception and follow-up (welcome booklet and satisfaction questionnaire) to avoid printing hundreds of sheets per year. Paper brochures printed in the minimum quantity.
• - Solid and eco-labeled bath products, soaps and kits assembled by sheltered workshops (ESATs). Paper straws, sugar dispensers, washable and reusable bed linen. Battery collection bin at reception.

🐦 Protecting biodiversity

• - More shelters for birds than for humans: 31 accommodations = 31 nesting boxes. Around thirty additional nesting boxes, insect hotels and shelters for bats, hedgehogs and ladybugs complete this network across the entire estate.
• - Each year, we plant several dozen trees and bushes, including fruit trees that are useful to birds as well as to our customers.
• - Selective Asian hornet traps, designed to spare local insects.
• - Our Ouessant sheep graze part of the estate and reduce the need for the tractor.
  

🧺 Buy local

• - Our store showcases more than 20 local products: spreads, dishes, drinks, cakes.
• - Cider and beers produced in Étables-sur-Mer. All our beers are Breton.
• - We indicate local markets in the welcome booklet to encourage local consumption.
• - In the summer and on certain long weekends, local food trucks set up in the estate square.
• - And even in our cocktails: the mint in our mojitos comes from our own plantation.
  

🧼 An interview using natural products

All accommodations and common areas are cleaned and disinfected using only natural products.

🤝 Everyone's participation is part of the adventure

We bear the brunt of the effort with our equipment. But when water resources become scarce, technical solutions are no longer sufficient. A few simple actions, multiplied by several hundred vacationers, quickly add up to several cubic meters, without compromising the comfort of their stay:

- Turn off the shower during soaping (the "start and stop"), and rely on the color of the Hydrao shower head to avoid reaching the red.

- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or washing your hands.

- Use rainwater collectors to rinse feet, shoes and beach gear.

- Start the dishwasher fully loaded, on the eco program.

- Report any leaking tap, toilet or shower to reception.

- Turn off lights and appliances when leaving a room, turn off the heating with the window open or when leaving.

- Sort your waste according to the welcome booklet, and give your food scraps to the animals on the estate.

Our goal is not to make our holidaymakers feel guilty, but to allow them to participate with us in a collective effort that has become essential.

Nothing here is just a superficial argument. Our approach progresses each season through concrete actions, and it has no intention of stopping. This is who we are, not what we project.
